Structure monitoring

Structure monitoring comprises the instrumentation of a structure with a sensor system that monitors how the surroundings load the structure. An advanced software system receives the data, interprets them and reports the structure's condition to the operator. Realtime feedback to the operator means that overloading may be avoided and any damage to the structure may be discovered quickly. Comprehensive knowledge of the objective condition of the structure allows condition-based maintenance, black-box recorder functionality and investigation of incidents.

Many different types of structures benefit from continuous monitoring. Application areas include condition monitoring of structures like ships, oil platforms, wind turbines, bridges and aircraft. Monitoring contributes to increased safety and may facilitate an increase in fatigue lifetime for the structure.
